Robert and Mary Gonsalves opened Bloomy Rind on May 22nd 2010. We wanted a shop where people could come and be convivial about food and all things cheese. Since then Bloomy Rind has blossomed into a destination from outside Hingham and a mainstay for all those locally.
Mary has always had a love for cheese since she was very young. She always dreamed of the day of being a proprietor of fine foods and cheese. Through extensive travel and curiosity, cheese presented a unique interest and discovery. Already familiar with most European varieties, the American Artisanal Cheese Maker became an obsession.. “The Small cheesemaker in this country I feel is foraging a new and remarkable path.” What is old is new again, a real renaissance and not just with cheese, but interest in making quality American products. As a cheesemonger and partner I am proud to offer some of the best products that there are to offer.
Robert is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has Worked for Daniel Bruce, Boston Harbor Hotel, Frank Mcclelland of L'Espalier and Todd English of the Olive Group. As a corporate chef for Todd, Robert opened new restaurants and traveled over seeing many operations and special events.
