Vermont shepard is in.....

This is one truly special cheese and may be one of the many reasons Mary and I got into the cheese business. On a trip two years ago we visited this 250 acre farm in Putney Vermont and on it's property is an honor store for cheese, yarn and other items. What makes the farm special is the fact you can bring wine, bread and have an impromptu picnic as the sheep that produced the cheese watch you eat it.

Vermont Shepard is the oldest producer of sheep's milk cheese in the country. They pasture the sheep from April thru November and then cheese production ends until next spring. They have won numerous awards including 2007 A.C.S award for best sheep's milk farmstead cheese. The cheese itself is straw colored with a buttery finish not overly assertive, but memorable and pairs well with just about anything. I believe it's the ultimate snacking cheese especially with a great dried sausage, apples and mustard. Bloomy Rind is proud to offer this cheese
